Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is an oral blood-thinning drug (anticoagulant) that has been associated with uncontrollable bleeding and hemorrhaging. Xarelto is manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceuticals and marketed by Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary, Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Created as a one size fits all blood-thinner used for blood clots, deep vein thrombosis, and/or pulmonary embolism, Xeralto is marketed as an oral prescription drug that unlike warfarin does not require a specific dosage for each individual.
Xarelto & Uncontrollable Bleeding
One of the serious side-effects of Xarelto is uncontrolled bleeding. Because Xarelto thins the blood in order to prevent clotting, hemorrhaging can continue until the drug is flushed from the system, which can take up to 24 hours. Unlike older blood thinners for which vitamin K is an antidote to excessive bleeding, Xarelto has no such simple remedy.
Injuries from Xarelto can include:
- Uncontrolled bleeding
- Bleeding from the rectum
- Bleeding from the intestines
- Brain hemorrhages
